A hidden layer in a famous Rebrandt painting comes to light using X-rays, Spectroscopy and 3d digital reconstuction.

Rembrant’s “The Night Watch” had small lead cyrstals rising to the surface for decades and the reason for it had been a mystery for decades. The use of new approaches in archiving with multispectral and x-ray imaging allowed this mystery to be solved. See link to original article.
